Wagner's masterful retelling of the 17th century nautical legend,"The Flying Dutchman" has mesmerized audiences since the Dresden world premiere in 1843: A cursed sea captain and his phantom ship are doomed to sail the seas forever, unless he's redeemed by the powers of true love. November 15-17, at Phoenix's Symphony Hall, AZ Opera continues their season with Wagner's ghostly opera, complete with an all star cast that includes Mark Delavan as the Dutchman. This Halloween the AZ Pro Arte Orchestra will provide the accompaniment for the terrifying 1922 German Expressionist Film, Nosferatu- a dark tale based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Hans Erdmann’s original score has long been lost, so director Timothy Verville rose to the occasion and created a new setting of music by Dvorak, Brahms and Wagner to frame the film. AZ Pro Arte’s Composer-in-Residence, Christopher Norby, has also contributed original music for several of the film’s scenes. Christopher Norby joins K-Bach's Jane Hilton.
