Catalin Rotaru balances a busy international performing schedule with his teaching duties at Arizona State University's School of Music. Violinist Elmira Darvarova, after 24 years with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, as former concertmaster and the first female concertmaster in the MET’s history, is once again gracing concert halls as a soloist. She’ll be making two Arizona appearances this month as she returns August 23 & 24th to perform with the Red Rocks Music Festival, in “FROM BACH TO BLUES”, an eclectic recital program that includes several world premieres-all for unaccompanied violin.

The families that live in Cateura, Paraguay make their living by recycling trash and selling it. In 2006, Visionary teacher Flavio Chavez decided to start a music program for the children in the area. With no funds or means, he, along with community members, turned to the resources at hand- and decided to build instruments from trash. Seven years later, the children of Cateura have a thriving music school and a youth orchestra that performs internationally. This week, The Recycled Orchestra makes their US debut at the MIM.
